Sculptor and visual artist Arja Maarit Puhakka lives and works in the city of Parainen, in the archipelago region of Finland, where nature still plays an important role in everyday life and is a constant source for inspiration. Her works could be described experimental, and her interest range from traditional sculpture to modern installations that combine different materials and methods in unprejudiced ways. Recently also painting has become an important part of her work.
Puhakka has participated several group exhibitions and has had solo exhibitions in major Finnish cities since 1995. Her works have been presented outside of Finland in Estonia, Japan and Russia. She has works in the collections of cities Bramming, (Denmark) Iquitos (Peru), Lübbenau (Germany), Kankaapää, Loimaa, Parainen and Pälkäne in Finland. The couple last years she has made large scale environmental art works in Turku region and in year 2009 she was a coordinator in international Environmental Art Event in Turku. She has studied art in Kankaanpää Art School, Finland, Tallinn Art University. Estonia, and Academies of Fine Arts in Prague, Czech Republic and Turku, Finland. Puhakka has a Master degree (M.Sc.) in Art history and is a member of Finnish Sculptors and Turku Artists associations.
